Understanding Updates

When Rooof fixes something or adds a new feature to PostEngine for Desktop, the application on your computer will need to be updated to the latest version.

Windows automatically checks for and installs software updates several times a day while your computer is connected to the internet. Once the update has been installed on your computer, PostEngine will ask you to restart the program to apply the update. If you see a pop-up update prompt or a red notification on the bell icon, click to Update/Install Now.

Check Your PostEngine for Desktop Version

Open PostEngine for Desktop and click the gear icon in the upper right corner. The version numbers will be listed under Software Details

Update PostEngine for Desktop: In App

Update PostEngine for Desktop: In the MS Store

By default, Windows automatically checks for and installs app updates several times a day while your computer is connected to the internet.

Sometimes updates get stuck in the MS Store and aren't auto-installed. When this happens, you'll need to go to the MS Store to get your update.
1. Open the Store app by clicking on the MS Store icon in your taskbar (if you don't see the icon, click the magnifying glass to search for it in your Windows Start menu).

2. Inside the MS Store, click the ellipsis in the upper-right corner.

3. Click Downloads and updates.

4. Click Get updates. The Microsoft Store app will scan for updates for all installed apps. If an app update is detected it will be downloaded and installed automatically. You're all done!

Troubleshooting

Will the update take a long time and if the program restarts, will I lose my work?

PostEngine updates are usually very quick and no, you won't lose your work! Posts that you have scheduled won't be affected by restarting/updating the software.

How do I know if my software is up to date?

Check for updates inside PostEngine for Desktop and in the Microsoft Store. If there aren't any updates available in either place then your software is up to date!

I want the Microsoft Store to install my PostEngine updates automatically.

To turn this feature on, open the Microsoft Store app and click the ellipsis menu. Select Settings, and toggle the switch below Update apps automatically.

There's an issue with the update.
