Craigslist Phone Verification
In this article
Overview
Once you click Publish Craigslist may ask you to confirm your ad by completing Phone Verification. You will need to complete the verification in order to publish your ad. The purpose of this request is Craigslist wanting to confirm that you're a real person, not a robot.
The most common cause of Phone Verification is a new Craigslist account. Generally, Craigslist will make you verify your ads when you first start using your account. Typically you will see these requests within the first month of using an account but it may happen past this point if you're posting very frequently or if you change the email or password associated with your account.
Completing phone verification
1. If phone verification is required, you'll be asked to complete it after you click Publish on your ad draft. Enter your phone number and choose via text message / SMS or via voice to receive the verification code from Craigslist.
Click continue when you're ready
3. You'll receive a verification code from Craigslist. Enter it in the box and click submit.
4. The verification is complete and your post is now live on Craigslist!
Troubleshooting
I don't want to use my personal cell phone, can I use the office number?
We recommend selecting the via text message/SMS option because via voice won't work if you use a number with a decision tree (i.e. "press 1 for this"). We find that the phone/voice version can be unreliable and have better success rates with texts.
What if I type my phone number incorrectly?
No problem! Wait 5 minutes, then click try again.
Can I use the same phone number to complete ad verification by phone on multiple Craigslist accounts?
When you enter a phone number for ad verification by phone, it is temporarily linked to the Craigslist account for 90 days. If you try to use this phone number with another account within that period, you will see an error message that says the phone number is "already in use".
